1837: Thief knew Whiteman's Green premises

CUCKFIELD.

May 23.—0n Wednesday evening the house of a labourer, at Whiteman’s Green, named Tompsett, was broken into, and every eatable taken therefrom. On the same day the shop of George Stevens, shoemaker, was entered, and two pairs of new shoes and several pieces of leather were stolen. No clue has yet been obtained sufficient to find out the perpetrator, but it supposed to have been done by persons well acquainted with the premises.
