HAYWARDS HEATH AND SHOPS.
To the Editor of The Mid-Sussex Times
Sir. —It is a matter for regret that Haywards Heath in being overshopped. There are two aspects to this matter, both of which are somewhat serious.
First, several influential residents are very disturbed at the destruction of such a lovely spot as Brent Eleigh, throwing down grand old trees, destroying beautiful flowers and shrubs, so much so that some have hinted that Haywards Heath is no longer a residential town, which may end in their leaving. This would be very serious to the already overstrained tradesmen.
Secondly, is it not time to cry halt to the building of shops and especially to let or sell to those large Companies that can soon oust every little one-man business out of the town ?
I trust you will print this not for me only but for others who have spoken to me on the matter.
Yours faithfully,
A SUSSEX ROAD TRADESMAN
Haywards Heath.
