Tommy Cook, star of two sports, dead
TOMMY COOK, the former Brighton and Hove Albion and England centre forward, and Sussex county cricketer, has died at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, aged 49

Cook played for England against Wales in 1925, and his cricketing career in Sussex ended in 1937 when he accepted a coaching appointment in Capetown.
He served in the first World War with the Royal Nay, and in the late War as a corporal in the South African Air Force. In 1943 he was seriously injured in an accident at an Air School in South Africa, and was nearly six months in hospital.
Cook played his early cricket and football for Cuckfield where he was born. For two seasons as an amateur and six as a professional he led the Brighton and Hove Albion forwards before going to Bristol Rovers.
