A LIFESIZE replica of a 16ft.-high prehistoric lizard. the Iguanodon, is to be built at Cuckfield, Sussex, to commemorate the discovery of the remains of one of the monsters 150 years ago.
The statue was never built, partly due to concerns about the likelihood of it being defaced. However, a memorial to Gideon Mantell's historic discovery stands in Whiteman's Green near the exact spot where it was found; there is a 'miniature' iguanodon statue in the play area of the recreation ground...
