1978: No. 4 of Great walks around Cuckfield -Fields, Footbridges and Country Lanes
Mid Sussex Times June 22 1978
A small stream, a woodland path and the prospect of open countryside: the fourth of our Walks Around Cuckfield offers plenty of reasons to pull on your walking boots.

Starting at the churchyard, the route heads towards Ockenden Lane before descending to a footbridge and climbing towards Whitemans Green. These changes of level bring variety from the outset, with enclosed paths giving way to more open ground.
Beyond Whitemans Green, the leaflet leads walkers through trees and across a large field to another little brook. Pause beside the water and listen: birdsong, rustling leaves and the trickle of the stream may reward a moment’s quiet.
The circuit continues towards Sparks Lane and through woodland to Mizbrook’s Farm, returning by Cleavers Lane, North Lodge and Beech Farm. Along the way, hedgerows and field margins offer opportunities to watch for birds, while the changing seasons bring their own colours, scents and textures.
The original leaflet estimates about five miles and two hours, although anyone stopping to enjoy the surroundings should allow longer. It is a walk to savour at an unhurried pace—a reminder of how much countryside lies within reach of Cuckfield.
This is a historic leaflet: check the route against a current footpath map. Gates, landmarks and road arrangements may have changed; take particular care at road crossings.
