1881: Cyclist shaken but not stirred in Cuckfield

More Haste and Less Speed.


—On Wednesday afternoon a bicyclist was taking a rapid tour of the town on his machine, he steered on to Place Walk, and when he reached the top of the hill the bicycle overturned and threw the unfortunate occupant into the road.

There he lay till assistance (which was near at hand) had him conveyed to the White Hart Inn, where, after recouping for a short time, he was enabled to proceed on his way, not particularly hurt beyond a severe shaking.
