1910: A bit giddy


James Sherlock, of Hurstpierpoint, was summoned for being drunk whilst in charge of a horse at Cuckfield on May 25th. Defendant pleaded guilty. PC Day said he saw defendant riding a horse down by Cuckfield Park. He nearly fell off. Witness met two motor cars on the way.


Defendant had taken his van to Whiteman's Green to have it repaired, and had left it there.Defendant said he thought he was all right when he started from Whiteman's Green, but after riding the horse he ‘came over a bit giddy’. It was his first offence. Fined 5s, including costs.
