ANSTYE.

To the Editor of The Mid Sussex Times.

Current sign for Anstye

Dear Sir,—Bearing on what I had to say about Anstye in a recent article in The Mid-Sussex Times, I came across, a few days since, a volume of the Sussex Archaeological Collections issued in 1879, and in it found the following reference to Anstye under the heading of Sussex Armorials : — “Ansty, of Ansty, a manor in Cuckfield. Arms: Or a cross engrailed gules, between 4 martlets sable; crest a martlet.”

Yours faithfully,

HUBERT BATES

Cuckfield.
