Cuckfield

An American from the small US town of Cuckfield landed in Britain not long ago and found himself stationed in this, our Sussex village. Recently in the local YMCA he told the leader that when he returned home he was going to re-name his house giving it the name of the tiny hamlet, nearest to his camp, as a memento of the very happy time he has had in this country.

Can this be the case - is there a US town called Cuckfield? We can't find any evidence of this.
