PICTURE THEATRE

FOR HAYWARDS HEATH

FIRST-CLASS SHOW PROMISED

Haywards Heath is advancing! All up-to-date towns are today able to say they have a picture theatre for the amusement of residents, and certain enterprising gentlemen– knowing that Haywards Heath prides itself on marching with the times- have decided to give the town a place of amusement in the Broadway to be known as the Heath Theatre.

A more central site could not be found, and no expense, we understand, is going to be spared to make the theatre worthy of public patronage. Pictures which will bear comparison with any at present shown are to be presented, together with a variety turn, or turns each week.

The theatre will be opened, the proprietors hope, about the middle of December, and it is a point worthy of mention that it is their intention to purchase locally, as far as possible, the necessaries in connection with it. There is undoubtedly a large number of pleasure seekers in and around Haywards Heath, and so long as the proprietors of the new place can offer amusement to give them first class fare they are not likely to appear in vain for the support which their enterprise merits.

Among the earliest programmes at the Theatre was a film on 'Oxo Cattle Farms' (see advertisement below). Although this has been lost you can get a flavour of the sort of content from the following contemporary Brazilian film entitled 'A livestock farm in Brazil'

Mid Sussex Times - Tuesday 20 February 1912

OXO CINEMA FILM, Entitled

“Life on the Oxo Cattle Farms”

Beautiful living pictures of some of the 350,000 OXO cattle, a grand march past of one herd, counting cattle, a novice opening a gate on horseback, a cowboy breaking-in his horse, branding calves- a parade of pedigree Hereford OXO Bulls worth £1000 each, great bull weighing over a ton plunging into a bath, cowboys separating big bulls from a herd and galloping across the plains. This film will form part of an excellent programme.

SHOWING
